Enjoy a visit to the fantastic exhibition that is Vital Art Nouveau 1900, and you will surely be amazed. Taking place in the grand and opulent building that is Municipal house, this is a fitting setting for an exhibition of 19th-20th century Czech and European Art Nouveau works.
The Art nouveau movement started as a reaction to academic art of the 19th century. It was inspired by natural forms and structures, not only in flowers and plants, but also in curved lines. Art Nouveau is considered a “total” art style, as it influenced painting and architecture the same as it did fashion and applied arts.
The exhibition is presenting a selection of the most outstanding works of Czech and European Art Nouveau art from the holdings of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. There will be upwards of 400 items on display, including works exhibited at the Paris World’s Fair of 1900.
At the exhibition, you will have access to self-service multimedia tablet presentation, which will provide further information on selected items on view, their creators and the period context. You will also be able to purchase a comprehensive catalogue featuring much of the work on show at the exhibition.
Guided tours are available, and if you are interested in seeing the rest of the elegant building, you can purchase a combination ticket for 380 – 450 CZK. Take a moment to gaze at the intricate details of the ceiling, the motifs, and the sculptures; they will truly take your breath away. You might even be lucky enough to catch the orchestra rehearsing in the beautiful main hall.
