Designblok, Prague International Design Festival is the largest design and fashion show in Central Europe. The history of the festival goes back to 1999. It was founded with the intention of bringing to the Czech environment a parade comparable to foreign design weeks, where the public could get acquainted with domestic and world design creation and creators would find a platform here to present their work, but also to compare it with competitors. Designblok is the most important and the most visited showcase of contemporary design in the Czech Republic. Designblok traditionally introduces the work of designers and manufacturers from all over Europe; it brings up innovations of prestigious brands and prototypes of young designers and design studios.
Prague Design Week is attended annually by over 200 exhibitors in the main Designblok area, which consists of Superstudio, Openstudio and Art House. In addition to the central space, a number of galleries, showrooms and pop-up shops throughout Prague are being opened during Designblok, preparing a special program for visitors.

The exhibition is a part of the world-famous glass collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague from the second half of the 20th and early 21st centuries, the so-called author’s glass. A selection of key works from different decades is accompanied by explanatory chronological texts, including statements by famous representatives of the glass scene. The exhibition illustrates to visitors how and when these exclusive works initiated the development of creative glass in the world. All the works that visitors will be able to admire were created many decades ago, but they do not age, they are still aesthetically contemporary, imaginative in conception, discovered in the technology and used design.
Authored glass (also called studio, individual, solitaire or glass art) is a production designed by artists-glassmakers, which is not intended for mass or manufacturing multiplication. It is an experimental manifestation that transcends the imaginary line between applied art and so-called free art.
